I am so happy to have completed a four-week TikTok internship with Rachel Pedersen.
In May, Rachel posted in one of her Facebook groups that she was planning to run a TikTok internship. If anyone was interested, they had to apply by completing a form.
Rachel is so down-to-earth and has an honest approach, which I think appeals to so many. I like her way of training and how she explains things. She is also a fantastic cheerleader for small business owners, wanting them to succeed.
I was in two minds about filling out the form. I’m not a fan of being on camera and doing dancing and lip-syncing videos. But I decided that it would be a good opportunity to learn and push myself out of my comfort zone. So I went ahead and applied.
In all honesty, I did not think I would be successful… hello imposter syndrome.
You have been accepted
Well, you can imagine my surprise when I received an email one Friday evening saying, ‘Congratulations! Out of the 9,334 people interested, I was accepted’. I had to read the email a couple of times, and my emotions went from yay to OMG many times over.
I joined the Facebook group with over 1,200 members, and there were varying levels of TikTok users, from those not having an account to seasoned TikTok users. The group was so welcoming and supportive of everyone.
Weekly training
I was so pleased that the time of the Facebook group lives meant that I could attend live and listen to Rachel, as normally the time zones often mean it is in the early hours, usually between 1 – 4 am.
Each week, Rachel would go through the training for that week and set us all homework. I am not going to go into detail as to what the training and homework were, as I understand that the internship will probably run again, and you can experience it for yourself.
Just know that each week there is a deadline to complete the homework, and you will only be considered successful if you follow the instructions and meet the deadlines. You will receive an email to confirm this. Due to the number of entries, the team is still working their way through all the homework, so I haven’t received confirmation yet.
Deadlines met
I am super happy to say that I completed my homework and met the deadlines. At this moment in time, Rachel’s team is going through the homework to ensure deadlines have been met. This is taking a while, considering how many there are to check.
What I learned
While this was a TikTok internship, the focus was more on marketing messages, hooks, value, calls to action, and video editing. Rachel gave us so much in the training, and I learned so much. To also have the opportunity to use Rachel’s raw videos to create short-form videos was a great experience.
I used Canva for my video editing. It was my first time really editing videos, so it was a big learning curve. I have to say the support in the group was great. Some of the videos that people shared were amazing.
If you get the opportunity to apply for Rachel’s TikTok internship in the future, then do!
